In anticipation of Earth Day 2023, the 88th Civil Engineering Group’s Qualified Recycling Program working group is hosting a roadside cleanup on a two-mile stretch of State Route 444 between Area A and Area B on Tuesday, April 11 from 7:30-11:00 a.m. All base personnel are invited to participate. Volunteers will assemble at 7:30 a.m. at Bldg. 20741 adjacent to the RV lot on Kaufman Ave. Safety vests, gloves and trash bags will be provided. The Military Officers Association of America’s Dayton Area Chapter is accepting applications through April 15 for its annual $2,000 merit scholarship. Applicants must be high school seniors in the Dayton area with a parent eligible for MOAA membership. That includes active-duty, Reserve, National Guard and retired service members from any military branch.

The $2,000 scholarship award will be based upon the applicant’s merits as determined by members of the MOAA Dayton Area Chapter’s Scholarship Evaluation Committee. The National Aviation Hall of Fame is an organization dedicated to celebrating air and space advancements made possible by America’s innovators and visionaries. Chartered by Congress in 1964, the Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization that honors the men and women who reached skyward and succeeded.

The hall wants to share its message and the life stories of enshrinees in a broad variety of venues and is seeking volunteers to assist in that mission.

NAHF is co-located with the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Admission is free and open to the public every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4:30 p.m., except for federal holidays and Easter.

Volunteers work four-hour shifts as often as they’d like. Perks include enshrinement invitations, merchandise discounts, fellowship, food and quarterly appreciation meals.

Active-duty Airmen considering a transition to the Air Force Reserve face requirements and options ahead of making the move.

Whether life circumstances change or active duty simply isn’t a good fit, the Air Force offers two programs that allow members to continue serving part time: Palace Chase and Palace Front. Both are offered to active-duty officers and enlisted members, giving them the opportunity to transfer from active duty to an Air Reserve Component.

For officers, a scroll is required before your date of separation and can take up to nine months to complete. Without it, a break in service will accrue.

Applications are now available for several scholarships supported by the Society of American Military Engineers Kittyhawk Post.   

The Kittyhawk Post grants scholarships annually to encourage students in the Post’s region (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky) to pursue careers in fields related to the Society’s mission - engineering, architecture, construction, facilities management and environmental management/science. The program is designed to cover all levels of post-high-school education to include bachelors and graduate degrees. The number and value of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year, thanks in part to donations from many of the posts sustaining (private industry) members. Grants are unrestricted, and they are usually offered in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, as funds allow. 

Scholarships are open to all qualifying local students whose applications are received by the deadline, April 1, 2023. The Post’s Major General Barnes, April Lewis, and sustaining member scholarships are intended to assist current undergraduate students and 2023/24 entering freshmen in fields related to the society’s mission. The Post’s Timothy Curtis scholarship is designed to aid students with at least one year of full-time work experience who are returning to school to pursue a degree in a supported career field or to make a career change into these fields.  

The Society of American Military Engineers leads collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges. It is the premier professional association for military, public, private, and academic professionals in the architecture, engineering, construction (A/E/C), facility management and environmental fields, working towards America’s national security.
