WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Looking for your next career? Learn about job opportunities and connect with “military-ready employers” during Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Hiring Our Heroes Career Summit.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation will host the annual event 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 at the Hope Hotel & Richard C. Holbrooke Conference Center just outside Gate 12A near Air Force Materiel Command headquarters.

“The Hiring Our Heroes Career Summit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is an opportunity for transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses and caregivers to connect with military-ready employers,” said Joseph Holbert, the Chamber foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes project manager. “In addition to a morning with workshops ranging from how to write a resume to the importance of networking, the summit includes a free hiring fair.”

Retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell, former senior enlisted adviser to the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, will be the Career Summit’s special guest. Col. Charles Barkhurst, 88th Air Base Wing vice commander, is scheduled to provide opening remarks.

Organizers said job seekers can learn about careers in industries such as cyber, information technology, administration, defense contracting, health care and medical. SkillBridge and apprenticeship programs will also be highlighted.

Throughout the morning, attendees will hear about networking benefits, get insider tips from hiring managers and recruiters, and discover best interview practices.

More than 40 companies are expected to actively hire, officials said. The hiring fair is set for 1-4 p.m.

“Local, regional and national employers will be on site with more than 2,500 available positions across various industries,” said Holbert, a Navy veteran himself hired through a Hiring Our Heroes job fair. “Hiring Our Heroes Career Summits are hands-on career-planning events designed to educate, inform, inspire and connect attendees with employers.”

For more than a decade, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment through its comprehensive training and hiring events, fellowship programs and online tools, according to the organization’s website.

Holbert said nearly 5,500 people attended 27 in-person hiring events last year across 18 states. More than 2,800 job offers were extended.
