BUS RIDERS NEEDED – RTA continues support to Area B through New Year’s Eve – The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority is running a FREE “Tripper” shuttle service with two morning and afternoon runs, connecting five major stops on Area B to off-base housing and the Airway Shopping Center (RTA public transit routes 1, 2 and 11). The original trial period has been extended through Dec. 31; RTA will continue it or convert to a fixed route if there is enough interest.

HOLIDAY HOURS:

The WPAFB Tripper Shuttle will *not* run on Christmas Day. Otherwise, it’s on track for two morning and afternoon routes as scheduled – see below for stops and times.

Individual pickups/drop-offs can still be scheduled through RTA Connect On-Demand by calling 937-425-8300. Go to www.iriderta.org for details on how to use Connect On-Demand within Zone 4.

BUS RIDING 101:

The RTA “Tripper” service to WPAFB’s Area B is free. CAC checked at gate for all riders. To ride, simply show up (no scheduling required) at any pickup spot (see attached “RTA Tripper flyer”). Stops 1 & 2 connect to off-base housing and RTA city bus routes 1, 2 and 11. Visit Dayton RTA at www.iriderta.org for details.

Download the Transit App for live city bus tracking (the “Tripper” shuttle not yet available for tracking). The Transit App works in all major U.S. cities, streaming live information from bus, shuttle and metro routes. The cost of RTA city bus rides caps at $4/day and $40/month. Bus fare is paid using Tapp Pay (card available downtown) or directly in the Transit App (click the “Ride now” button). Or input your departure and destination location and desired arrival time on Dayton RTA’s Trip Planner tab at Dayton RTA (iriderta.org). You can ask our POCs to help.

SEND US YOUR SUGGESTIONS!

RTA needs your suggestions/requests in order to optimize service. Consider riding even one day a week or one-time-only while we establish ridership for this critical infrastructure-promoting alternative and safe transportation to base. If you or someone you know has any interest in commuting by bus or bicycle-bus combination, let Area B organizers know. RTA wants input for pickup/drop-off locations and best service times; adjustments to routes and pickup times are possible during and after the trial period, so let us know what stops/times work best for you. Bus commutes save you the expense and stress of driving, wear & tear on your vehicle, and reduce emissions – save your car this winter! Ride the bus now to see how it works for you. Want to suggest new stops and times? Send your building number (Area A or B) and work hours to james.kennedy.39@us.af.mil. We will work with RTA to optimize the schedule and accommodate as many riders as possible.

Your support equals a dramatic “quality of life” improvement for WPAFB! POCs: Dr. Rachel Kinard at rachel.kinard@us.af.mil or 432-210-2954 (call or text) and James Kennedy at james.kennedy.39@us.af.mil.

EARN BENEFITS THROUGH PUBLIC-TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

If you’re concerned about the high cost of gasoline, traffic congestion or air pollution, you may be interested in the Mass Transportation Benefit Program.

MTBP makes it possible for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel to be reimbursed up to $245 a month for utilizing public transportation as a means to travel to and from work.

The program is open to all civilian employees (appropriated and nonappropriated), military members and reservists on active duty. Contractors are not eligible.

The Mass Transportation Benefit Program is limited to vanpools, Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority and Greene CATS Public Transit riders. Carpools do not meet reimbursement criteria.

Compensation is paid in the form of vouchers and debit cards funded through the Department of Transportation, 88th Force Support Squadron officials said. Personnel normally receive vouchers on a quarterly basis and must sign for them.

Registration and program participation are simple. An eligible employee or service member adhering to all governing rules and regulations via public transportation submits an application package to Program Manager Shawnetta White of the 88 FSS Civilian Personnel Office, who will forward it to DOT.

To obtain an application or more information, contact her at shawnetta.white@us.af.mil or 937-904-3272.

Combined Federal Campaign 2023 – The Combined Federal Campaign remains open until Jan. 14. This year’s theme is GIVE HAPPY, because studies show that when you give happiness, you get happy, too. CFC is a federal tradition – an annual opportunity to come together to raise money and volunteer for our favorite charities, spreading happiness around the world one gift at a time.

Last year, federal employees heard the urgent call to action and responded by giving generously from their hearts – donating more than $70 million. Right here at Wright-Patterson AFB, personnel pledged $754,000. With your help, we can surpass this! These CFC pledges make a real and meaningful difference to a countless number of individuals throughout our communities, nation and world.

You can check out this short video to see what CFC is all about: https://safe.menlosecurity.com/https://givecfc.org/campaign-videos. Read more about the campaign here: www.wpafb.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/3541466/combined-federal-campaign-kicks-off-2023-fundraising-efforts.
