88th Air Base Wing Year In Review

By Brian Dietrick
88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - As this year comes to a close, we take a look back at 2022 and highlight mission success, key accomplishments and how the host unit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base provides “Strength through Support.”

Throughout December, we’ll step back in time to relive notable moments and significant events that showcase how the Mighty 88th is the Air Force’s premier air base wing.

This year saw multiple changes in command leadership throughout the installation, including Col. Christopher Meeker and Chief Master Sgt. Lloyd Morales taking charge from Col. Patrick Miller and Chief Master Sgt. Jason Schaffer. We saw the return of in-person events such as the Air Force Marathon and Honorary Commanders Program.

We also dive into how the 88th Air Base Wing supported big-picture Air Force-level missions, providing a safe haven for aircraft evacuation from hurricanes, supporting numerous distinguished-visitor engagements and much more.

Throughout the year, 88 ABW operates the airfield, maintains all infrastructure and provides security, communications, medical, legal, personnel, finance, transportation, air traffic control, weather forecasting, public affairs, recreation and chaplain services for more than 100 associate units. We are comprised of more than 5,000 officers, enlisted, civilian and contractor personnel.

One team. People-driven. Mission focused!
