The Equal Opportunity Program ensures equal opportunity compliance, provides proactive human relations services and champions Air Force policy of zero tolerance for unlawful discrimination and sexual harassment for all agency employees, Air Force members, and tenants.

Protected Categories

Race, Color, Religion, National Origin, Sex (to include Sexual Harassment, Pregnancy, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity), Hazing, and Bullying.

Additional Protected Categories for Civilians Include:

  • Age (40+), Disability (Mental/Physical), Reprisal, and Genetic Information.
  • Military: Active Duty, Dependents, Retirees
  • Civilian: AF Civilian Employees, Former Civilian Employees, AF Applicants for Employment
  • Military members must file within 60 calendar days of the alleged offense.
  • Civilian employees must contact the EO office and state an intent to file an informal complaint within 45 calendar days of the discriminatory action.

Everyone has a role

Commander

  • Strongly emphasizes zero tolerance!

  • Investigates allegations of unlawful discrimination and sexual harassment.

  • Protects members who file complaints against forms of reprisal or retaliation.

  • Commanders must provide EO with a synopsis of allegations and corrective actions taken when EO issues are handled within their organizations.

Supervisor

  • Sets a positive example on/off duty.

  • Reinforces zero tolerance policy.

  • Takes action on every issue.

  • Addresses rumors.

  • Keeps the chain of command informed of issues affecting the workplace.

  • Gives feedback on issues worked within the organization.

Complainant

  • Recognizes when standards are not met.

  • Clarifies facts vs. perceptions.

  • Documents incidents (who, what, where, when, and how).

  • Attempts to resolve issues at the lowest level.

  • Is aware of contact options for chain of command and helping agencies.

  • Reports other infractions outside of the EO scope to appropriate agencies.

Co-workers/Friends

  • Be a good listener and take action.

  • Encourages resolution in a timely manner.

  • Reports to proper authorities – anonymous if necessary – to include EO.
