2/11/2013 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Mr. John Schutte, 711th Human Performance Wing Technology Transfer Specialist, was recognized for Excellence in Technology Transfer at the Federal Laboratory Consortium Midwest Conference in August.
Mr. Schutte received recognition for his role on the Air Force Team's long-term orchestration of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and IAs or MOAs (Interagency Agreements/Memorandum of Agreements) executed among the 711th Human Performance Wing, the Institute of Medicine, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, when the effort to transfer biospecimens from the Air Force Health Study began in 2007.
Approximately 86,000 specimens were transported in 17 freezers from Brooks City-Base in Texas to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, without losing power or subjecting the specimens to environmental hazards. Although this was an extraordinary accomplishment in itself, Mr. Schutte went beyond the call of duty to resolve concerns, provide insight, and reach compromises when warranted to achieve the partnerships needed for this massive Technology Transfer coordination, which was completed in 2011.
As a result of this effort, the 711th Human Performance Wing assured that a unique biospecimen set and associated database, spanning nearly 33 years, has been preserved and made available to academic and medical researchers.
