711th Human Performance Wing

9/28/2012 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio  -- Mr. John Schutte, 711th Human Performance Wing Technology Transfer Specialist, was recognized for Excellence in Technology Transfer at the Federal Laboratory Consortium Midwest Conference on August 15-16. Mr. Schutte received the recognition for his long-term orchestration of CRADAs (Cooperative Research and Development Agreements) and IAs or MOAs (Interagency Agreements) between the 711th Human Performance Wing, the Institute of Medicine, and the Department of Veterans Affairs when the effort to transfer biospecimens from the Air Force Health Study began in 2007. Approximately 86,000 specimens were transported seamlessly in seventeen freezers from Brooks City-Base in Texas to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, all without losing power or subjecting the specimens to environmental hazards. Although this feat was indeed extraordinary, so were Mr. Schutte's continued efforts to resolve concerns, provide valuable insight, and reach reasonable compromises when warranted in this massive Technology Transfer coordination, realizing completion in 2011.

As a result of this massive effort, the 711th Human Performance Wing has assured that a unique biospecimen set and associated database, spanning nearly 33 years, has been preserved and made available to academic and medical researchers. Mr. Schutte is an integral part of this success, and truly deserves the esteem of the Excellence in Technology Transfer award. Congratulations!
