1/25/2012 - WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The 88th Medical Group's Gateway to Healthcare III Project kicked off on 23 January. This project will complete an 11 year total facility renovation.

The Gateway to Healthcare III Project will renovate Wright-Patterson Medical Center to modern clinical and operational standards. The construction entails the relocation, reorganization, and modernization of inpatient and outpatient departments consisting of clinical, surgical, support, administrative and ancillary spaces. The renovation level of effort ranges from provision of new interior finishes in some areas to gutting and rebuilding to accommodate like services in other areas.

The following Medical Center offices and services moved to the swing space trailers located at the corner of Red Bud and Sugar Maple Drive during the week of 23 January. The Medical Group Commander's office and staff, the Chief of the Medical Staff's office, the Chief Nurse's office, and the Organizational Improvement Offices as well as the Medical Operations, Inpatient Operations, Surgical Operations, Aerospace Medicine, Diagnostics and Therapeutics, and Medical Support Squadron command functions, and the orderly room. The Mental Health Flight relocated to the swing space trailers and will be ready to see patients in the new space beginning 30 January.

Telephones numbers will remain the same for those offices moving to the swing space.
When completed, the renovation will improve the patient care experience by consolidating like functions for easy access. All clinical services will be available on the 1st and 2nd floor, surgical and anesthesia services will be located together on the 2nd floor; Mental Health services will be located on the 4th floor; the Medical Group kitchen will be redesigned and upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment for patient, staff and visitor meals. Command and Administrative sections will be consolidated to the 5th floor, and Business and Support functions will be consolidated in the basement.

The estimated completion date for the project is August 2014.
