4/27/2011 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio  -- Base Explosive Ordnance Officials plan to detonate a small charge of explosives Thursday, April 28, at approximately 6 p.m.

Depending on wind, humidity and cloud cover, residents of base housing and those traveling or living near Area A of the base may hear the very brief 1-second explosion.

No one should be alarmed if the explosion is audible. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists with the 88th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate are required to conduct periodic training with live explosives to retain currency in their career field.

The training for this event will detonate up to 5 pounds of military C-4, which creates more concussive effect than the training charges used more frequently.

Air Force EOD specialists frequently deploy in support of military operations and are sometimes called upon by local law enforcement when suspect military ordnance is discovered in neighboring communities.
