Honor guard member Master Sgt. Eric Butt cradles the flag flown in honor of Capt. Kermit Evans, after a special retreat ceremony Dec. 6, 2006 at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. Captain Evans was killed in an emergency helicopter landing three days earlier near the shore of Lake Qadisiyah in western Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was one of 16 people aboard the Marine CH-46 helicopter and one of four servicemembers killed as a result of the landing. Captain Evans was the commander of the 27th Civil Engineer Squadron's Explosives Ordnance Disposal Flight.
