Arrival & In-Processing

Wright Start Program

Wright Start is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s official orientation for active-duty military members and their families. Held monthly, this in-person briefing introduces newcomers to the base mission, leadership priorities, and available support services. Attendees hear from experts across base agencies—medical, legal, finance, housing, and more—ensuring they begin their Wright-Patt experience informed, connected, and ready to succeed.

Spouses are also encouraged to attend Wright Start, but they can take advantage of a tailored orientation through Heart Link—a program designed specifically for military spouses. Heart Link focuses on helping spouses understand military structure, benefits, and support programs, while building community and confidence through interactive sessions and peer connection.

Together, these programs help new families integrate into Wright-Patt life and ensure they’re equipped with the knowledge and resources they need from day one.

New Civilian Orientation

New civilian employees will be scheduled to attend New Employee Orientation (NEO)—a full-day session designed to cover federal employment basics, WPAFB-specific resources, and civilian responsibilities within the Department of the Air Force. Topics include benefits, leave policies, organizational structure, customs and courtesies, and safety/security protocols.

Sessions are generally hosted by the Civilian Personnel Office (CPO), with opening remarks often provided by installation leaders.

In-Processing

To help streamline your arrival at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it’s important to connect with your sponsor or your gaining unit’s point of contact for a tailored In-Processing Checklist. Because multiple tenant units operate here, each with its own procedures, there isn’t a single, universal checklist.

The checklist will guide you through essential tasks like healthcare enrollment and meeting your supervisor. Working with your sponsor or unit ensures you complete all required in-processing steps specific to your assignment.

We recommend downloading or printing the checklist prior to your arrival. For other questions or information you can contact the M&FRC or read through these check-in procedures

ID Cards & Base Access

New personnel—including civilians, dependents, and contractors—will need a Common Access Card (CAC) or dependent ID to access secure areas and base systems. All CACs are issued by the MPF (Military Personnel Flight) Customer Service Office. First-time visitors or new hires should bring two forms of valid ID to their DEERS appointment.
