Fighter pilot provides service in time of war
While stationed at Bien Hoa Air Base, Vietnam, then-1st Lt. Fred Abrams, an Air Force F-100 “Super Sabre” fighter pilot, distributes items to children as part of a humanitarian initiative. Despite the combat actions taking place around them, it wasn’t always flying fighter missions for Abrams and his squadron, 531st Tactical Fighter Squadron, which supported a school, an orphanage and a leper colony. The now-retired Abrams feels that these helping efforts which military members often make during wartime should be remembered. For him, those non-combat experiences away from the cockpit helped shape his future desires to provide service to others.
