AED life-saving tool
During the Wright-Patterson AFB, February 2016, base-wide exercise, some Airmen around the installation were tested on the correct procedures of using an automatic external defibrillator, or AED. The AED is a portable device that checks heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest, which is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. Tech. Sgt. Scott Johnson, 88th Air Base Wing, retrieves an AED to respond to a victim of a simulated heart attack. US Air Force photo/William Huntington
