F-35 Lightning cockpit demonstrator
Col. Jay Strickler, 88th Air Base Wing vice commander, takes a "ride" in the F-35 Lightning II cockpit demonstrator at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on Sept. 9. Aeronautical Systems Center's 640th Aeronautical Systems Squadron here oversees U.S. Air Force acquisition and program management support for the F-35. First flight test for the Air Force variant of the F-35 was Dec. 15, 2006 at the Lockheed Martin plant in Fort Worth, Texas. That test aircraft has now flown 46 times. The U.S. Air Force plans F-35 initial operational capability in 2013. (U.S. Air Force photo/Derek Kaufman)
