Dr. John Fenn, seated, professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, chats with Joseph Bango, center, and Dr. Phillip Westmoreland during a break at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Space Propulsion and Power Contractors Review held recently in Annapolis, Md. Doctor Fenn, a 2002 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, spoke to attendees about electrospray applications in space propulsion. Bango is president of Connecticut Analytical Corp. and Westmoreland is program director for combustion, fire, and plasma systems at the National Science Foundation. Fenn and Bango are conducting research to design a new fuel delivery system for satellites that will be used to test Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity in space. Hundreds of researchers and scientists from throughout the United States representing academia, government, and private sectors attended the 5-day review covering topics in plume dynamics and chemical propulsion.
