WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s theater, located in the Kittyhawk Area of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, offers new movies two to four weeks after their first release, all with high- resolution digital projection.

These movies are closed captioned and run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The theater provides new movies for an affordable price to anyone stationed or working at the base, including spouses and dependents, according to Joshua Adamson, projectionist.

The process to pull off a successful film showing is much easier these days because the movies are in digital format, Adamson said.

“The movie is shipped to AAFES by UPS or FedEx and looks like a two pound thumb drive. The cartridge slides into the ingest port and four adjustments are made for screen size (51 feet), scope or flat, English and resolution,” he said.

After copying the movie to the projector, Adamson makes adjustments and sets up a show.

“I set up a play list like a slide show with two black screens five and 20 seconds long for ads or promotions. There are two black screens at the end of the movie, which last about 10 seconds each,” he said.

At the beginning is the 90 second spot for the national anthem, a tradition in military theaters.
