App keeps marathon participants and fans informed Published Sept. 1, 2016 By Brian Brackens 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- If you plan to attend the Air Force Marathon as a runner, wheeled participant, fan or spectator, consider downloading the Air Force Marathon app. The app keeps attendees up-to-date with the latest information on guest speakers, event schedules, maps and alerts regarding race status. Rick Perron, marketing coordinator for the marathon said that the app provides a great opportunity to engage race participants. “Apps are becoming almost standard in the race industry,” Perron said. “When participants go to major races they expect an app. We decided that we wanted to go ahead and meet that need and offer an interactive way to get information and provide alerts to participants. For example if an event gets cancelled we can send out an alert through the app.” An additional feature of the app is that it allows family and friends to track their runner or wheeled participant while they are on the course during the full and half marathons. The app is available for free in the Apple store and Google Play. The Air Force Marathon, presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing, will be held Sept.17, 2016. The Sports & Fitness Expo is held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center Sept. 15, and Sept.16. The Marathon will host a Gourmet Pasta Dinner and Breakfast of Champions for race participants Friday, Sept. 16. For more information about the race visit www.usafmarathon.com.
