Collection point saves money by reusing, donating, selling Published July 6, 2016 By W. Eugene Barnett Jr. 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The Defense Logistics Agency Disposition complex located in Building 741 near Area B, is the consolidation point for computers, printers, monitors, scanners, copiers, outside storage for motor vehicles, scrap, bulk, rolling stock (truck trailers), and hazardous waste. Every two weeks on Wednesday is "consolidation time," in which Wright-Patterson Air Force Base employees can call in and schedule an appointment to bring in their excess equipment necessary paperwork. According to Darywn Sewell, environmental protection specialist, DLA wants a revenue stream not a cost. Sewell also said being a financial steward is DLA's primary concern. Material that comes to DLA is photographed and put on line for viewing by Department of Defense employees and special programs such as schools, police, and firefighters. With the ever increasing prices for new equipment, DLA saves taxpayer's money by collecting equipment that is no longer being used at Wright-Patterson AFB and donating it to local agencies for reuse. If the equipment is not claimed within 43 days it is documented, packaged and transported to the regional distribution center hub in Columbus, Ohio to stock and resell, said Loren Ringo, property disposal specialist. More than 8,000 pieces of excess equipment were turned in 2015, and total scrap was 277,524 lbs. (mostly metal). Personnel interested in acquiring excess equipment may visit www.dla.mil/dispositionservices. For more information, contact Darywn Sewell or Loren Ringo at 255-2800.
