Focus Week registration open for courses being offered July 25-29 Published July 8, 2016 By Amy Rollins Skywrighter Staff WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Registration is now open for the third Focus Week of 2016, scheduled for July 25-29 at the 88th Air Base Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Registration will continue until the day before each course is held. Several classes are aimed at addressing supervisors' needs, said Marcia Sanders, 88 ABW Focus Week coordinator. "The Civilian Development Board surveyed our first-time, first-line supervisors earlier this year and as a result, we are offering several supervisor-specific classes during July Focus Week to address the requested training needs," she said. These include: · Delivering Effective Feedback, July 26, 8-10 a.m. - Giving feedback is one of the most important parts of a leader's job. It is also one of the most difficult. Leaders sometimes avoid attempting it but this can lead to poor overall performance. Doing it badly can result in conflict, bad feelings, a demotivated team and even worse performance than before. This course will focus on means to provide feedback in ways that raise performance in the person receiving feedback while maintaining his or her self-esteem and goodwill towards the organization. · How to Write a Better Bullet, July 27, 2-4 p.m. - Educating the total force on effective military writing techniques as required by today's demand for brevity. · SAPR Training For Supervisors, July 28, 9:30-11 a.m. - This course provides additional training for supervisors of active-duty and civilian employees in Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR). Supervisors will gain a greater knowledge of reporting options, case scenarios, on- and off-base resources and discuss new SAPR regulations and changes. Time will be allotted to ask specific questions of the sexual assault response coordinators and have open discussions about any concerns. · Labor Relations Leadership Training for Tactical Supervisors, July 28, 1-2:30 p.m. - The goal of this training is to assist tactical-level supervisors in understanding how the labor organizations represented on base affect organizations, and what duties, responsibilities and obligations they have under the labor relations program, the statute (the law) and the collective bargaining agreements. Classes continue to be offered through a training exchange partnership with Sinclair Community College (SCC) as a part of the Air Force Community Partnership Initiative. The goal of this program is to enhance mission viability and improve quality of life for Airmen while implementing collaborative projects that provide mutual value to the government and local communities. The SCC course offering this week, with limited seating, will be: · Project Management Days 1 and 2, July 25-26, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. · The Courage to Lead, July 29, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. - Participants will discover the importance of leading with courage, compassion, character, critical thinking and common sense. Additional Wright-Patterson AFB courses will include: · Managing Learning Styles · Business Etiquette · Excel Data Analysis and Formulas · Microsoft OneNote · Communication and Briefings Skills · Generations in the Workplace To register via MyETMS (Education and Training Management System), go to https://myetms.wpafb.af.mil.
