Softball game strengthens international relations Published Aug. 16, 2013 By Patty Long and Joyce Hurley Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate Air Force Life Cycle Management Center WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio -- Since 1984 the men and women of Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation (AFSAC) Directorate and their assigned Foreign Liaison Officers (FLOs) have participated in a friendly game of softball. This year was no different. The annual AFSAC vs. FLO softball game ended with an AFSAC victory and overall score of 22 to 10. Although the game is traditionally won by the AFSAC team on the field, this annual tradition within the foreign military sales community helps build camaraderie and strengthen relationships with foreign partners--a "win-win" for both teams. In many instances, this is the first time many of the FLOs have seen or played the sport. Coaches and organizers of the annual softball game included Cheryl Davis and Warrant Officer Gary Cunningham from the Australia and Canada Foreign Liaison Offices, respectively, and Patty Long of AFSAC who serves as the command country manager for Canada. The annual softball game is immediately followed by the directorate family picnic at Bass Lake. AFSAC has greatly benefited from the leadership and commitment of both Joyce Hurley-Zryd and Charmaine Hatton, who have planned and executed these two annual events collectively for the past 20 years. Hatton has chaired the picnic for the past 25 years.
