As a result of the passed continuing resolution legislation Oct. 16, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) activities will resume with the Department of Defense.

Locally, the Miami Valley CFC is active and its website, at www.milivalleycfc.org, is open for electronic pledges.

According to the website, the CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charitable giving campaign.  The mission of CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost efficient and effective in providing federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.  Together, the entire federal workforce contributes millions of dollars annually through 164 national CFCs.

DOD employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base can still initiate a pledge online by following these steps:

1. Visit www.miamivalleycfc.org.
2. Click "Search Charities" to obtain information about local, national and international organizations that have met CFC eligibility requirements.
3. Click "Pledge Online" to make a pledge.
4. Introduced this year, contributions may be made electronically through MyPay payroll deduction, which is designed for Department of Defense and Veterans Administration personnel. Donors also may contribute a one-time gift electronically through credit/debit card donation.

The online pledge option offers several advantages over paper pledge forms: It's available all the time, from any computer; it's more confidential and secure, as no paper forms pass from hand to hand; and it's less prone to error. Use of the system, like participation in CFC, is strictly voluntary.

Pledges made to this year's campaign and fulfilled through payroll allotment will be deducted January through December 2014.
