Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray will speak at the 2014 Air Force Marathon, officials announced.

The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and one of the most prestigious road racing events, according to the Boston Athletic Association's website.

Along with 26 years as the Boston Marathon race director, Mr. McGillivray has directed other events including the 1990 World Triathlon Championships, 1996 Atlantic Olympic Games and the 2004 Women's Olympic Marathon Trials. A revered athlete himself, he has numerous accomplishments to his name.

"I have heard Dave speak many times," said Race Director Rob Aguiar, "He has come to our race before as a featured speaker and he always draws a large crowd."

Mr. McGillivray will speak at the 2014 Sports & Fitness Expo, the Breakfast of Champions, and the Gourmet Pasta Dinner and participate in race-day activities. The guest speaker schedule for the Sports & Fitness Expo will be announced closer to the event.

The Breakfast of Champions, held at the Holiday Inn Dayton Fairborn on Friday, Sept. 19, will feature a panel of running experts to answer attendees' questions. Mr. McGillivray will participate in the panel as well as sign autographs and meet with runners afterward.

He will also speak at the Gourmet Pasta Dinner, held at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, on Friday, Sept. 19. Tickets for the pasta dinner and breakfast will go on sale on January 1, 2014.

"I'm very excited to have Dave back this year," said Mr. Aguiar, "Especially after the tragic events at Boston in 2013 and as a Boston native myself, it's wonderful to see the incredible support the running community has shown for the race and for Dave."

Mr. McGillivray is a well-known motivational speaker and has spoken at many events over the last 30 years, motivating new runners and experienced runners to achieve their goals.

"You can do almost anything you want in life, as long as you are willing to accept the sacrifices involved in getting there," said Mr. McGillivray.
