Once a year, military and civilian broadcast journalists compete in more than 35 categories spanning two Air Force journalism competitions.

Broadcasters assigned to the 88 Air Base Wing Public Affairs visual information division took home awards in each competition as a result of creative communication products produced in 2013.

According to Brian Duke, chief of the visual information division, the recognition is a testament to the collective 40+ years of experience in broadcast journalism shared by those in the video production branch.

"All of these projects are a team effort," Duke said. "The entire group is committed to creating the best possible products for all of our Wright-Patterson Air Force Base mission partners."

Results of the 2013 Air Force Media Contest were released March 13. The video production branch took honors in:

TV Feature Report category - first place for "Cornfield Bomber" by Matthew Clouse.

Outstanding Field Production category - first place for "Every Airman, Every Aircraft, Every Day (Agile Combat Support)." Key contributors are Clouse, Duke, Kenneth LaRock and James Mitchell.

TV Newsbreak category - second place for "Warrior Writers" by Airman 1st Class Nicholas Dastas.

Results of the 2013 Air Force Visual Information Production Awards (VIPA) were released March 11. The competition was held Feb. 10-11 and featured 28 entries from video production centers, combat camera squadrons and public affairs offices worldwide. The video production branch took honors in:

Documentary category - first place for "Life Cycle Management Center ... Our Story," which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tlK88vaThk

This video outlines the history, evolution and mission of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, which is headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB. Key contributors are Clouse, LaRock and Mitchell.

Training and Education category - second place for "Are You Ready to Meet the Board?" which provides an overview of how active-duty promotion and award boards operate. It also offers guidance on preparation, presentation and uniform requirements. Key contributors are Clouse, Duke, LaRock and Mitchell.

Public Service Announcement category - second place for "Hang Up and Drive," which explains the consequences of using a cell phone while driving on base. Key contributors are Clouse and Dastas.

VIPA recognizes the best Air Force video productions which achieve the official communication requirements of a military component or subordinate organization. The program also highlights professional Airmen, the powerful impact a quality video can provide to commanders' missions, and encourages benchmarking of the most effective and innovative video practices.

First and second place entries in each of the five categories have been forwarded to the Department of Defense Visual Information Production Awards to compete on behalf of the Air Force. The DOD VIPA will be judged in April.
