WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - The Air Force Marathon is looking for motivated, hard-working volunteers to fill several lead volunteer positions for the 2014 event.

Lead volunteers work in supervisory capacity at the Sports and Fitness Expo and on race day overseeing their specific area and training shift volunteers. Lead volunteers must be willing to attend two 1 hour training sessions - one in June and one in August.

Applications for Lead volunteers are available on the Air Force Marathon's website, www.usafmarathon.com, and are being accepted through April 18. A total of 2,300 Air Force Marathon volunteers will participate in the 2014 event. Regular volunteer positions will be posted online beginning May 1.

"The marathon staff and our runners rely heavily on our lead volunteers" said Jeanette Monaghan, Volunteer Coordinator. "Several of our experienced leads will not be returning after this year, it's imperative we start training new lead volunteers to ensure a smooth transition in the following years".

The Air Force Marathon, presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing, will be held Sept. 20 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The Sports & Fitness Expo is held at Wright State University's Nutter Center and will be Thursday, September 18, and Friday, September 19. The event will also feature a Gourmet Pasta Dinner and Breakfast of Champions on Friday, September 19. Get more information about the race www.usafmarathon.com. Participants start and finish at the National Air Force Museum, and spectators are welcome at the museum and downtown Fairborn.
