Representatives from the Air Force Academy will be conducting outreach in Ohio April 22-29. It will include a stop at the base theater here on April 22 from 9 to 10 a.m.

The visit is tied to the Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development (LEAD) program, which was developed by Air Force leaders to encourage aspiring enlisted Airmen to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Upon completion of the program, LEAD Airmen are commissioned as second lieutenants with a Bachelor of Science degree and enter active duty to train as pilots, engineers, program managers, intelligence officers, doctors, etc., and become future Air Force leaders.

The LEAD program offers appointments to the Air Force Academy and Academy Prep School, a 10-month program designed to prepare Airmen for the Air Force Academy.

The program relies on squadron and wing commanders to nominate highly-qualified Airmen with officer potential. Every year slots are reserved for Airmen at the Air Force Academy. There are 85 slots reserved for direct appointment and 50 slots reserved for the Academy Preparatory School. Many of these slots go unused.

The target audience for this presentation is Airmen who are interested in a commission through the Air Force Academy as well as their supervisors, first sergeants and commanders.

Eligibility criteria for enlisted personnel includes:

> Be at least 17 years old but not older than 23 on July 1 of the year of entrance to the Air Force Academy.
> Be an unmarried citizen of the United States and have no dependents.
> Be of good moral character. No prior drug use or conviction.
