Star-Spangled Celebration will combine three events Published April 21, 2014 By Amy Rollins Skywrighter Staff WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE -- Three regional events will combine to yield an extended weekend of high-flying fun, music, fireworks and festivities as the first Star-Spangled Celebration is held June 26-29. The events will celebrate the nation's independence and recognize service men, service women and their families. The "Hometown Heroes" part of the celebration will kick off at 8 p.m. June 26 with a live performance at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering. Details will be announced soon. On June 27 the Wright-Patt Freedom's Call will be held from 4 to 10:30 p.m. at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Freedom's Call, a cost-free, family-orientated celebration, will have something for everyone. For adults, there will be live music from The Kate Hastings Band, This Side Up and the popular Air Force Band of Flight. To harness young ones' energy, there will be a children's play area with various activities. For those seeking food and drink, local vendors will be on hand. The night will be capped off with a fireworks display starting at 10 p.m. The Vectren Dayton Air Show will cap off the celebration June 28-29 at the Dayton International Airport. The show will include a wide variety of aircraft on ground display, such as a replica of the historic Wright "B" Flyer along with modern commercial cargo jets and everything in between; high-flying stunts of some of the best pilots and acrobats in the country; and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, one of the world's most sought-after air show teams. The Star-Spangled Celebration is being organized and supported by the Dayton Development Coalition, Fraze Pavilion, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Vectren Dayton Air Show.
