Approximately 40 surgeries were performed during a four week long humanitarian mission performed by the 88 Medical Group (MDG) to the country of Belize. A volunteer group from the MDG participated in the New Horizons Belize 2014 exercise, which took place in Belize City.

"The most satisfying part of the trip was seeing the smiles on patients' faces and knowing we had taken good care of the citizens of Belize," said Maj. (Dr.) Toby Lees. According to Lees the country of Belize currently only has one urologist. The MDG volunteers assisted in performing reconstructive and gynecological surgeries.

"I thought the trip (to Belize) was just fantastic!" said Lees. "Certainly one of the most rewarding parts of the trip was being able to build a sense of team (amongst the volunteers)."

A similar New Horizons mission is in the works to serve the country of Honduras. "By the end of (my time in Belize) I had a great deal of overall satisfaction in serving the people of Central America," said Lees.
