Welcome coffee promotes officers spouses club Published Sept. 5, 2014 By Tara Dixon Engel Skywrighter staff WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- As children start up the new school year, many organizations and clubs are also gearing back up as fall approaches. The Officers' Spouses' Club (OSC) is no exception as it welcomed new, existing and potential members to the Wright-Patt Club on Aug. 28 for an "activities and welcome coffee." OSC President Kimberly Dobbs called it "our big hurrah to start the year," and it was clearly a popular attraction, providing dozens of booths and displays for members and potential members, with offerings ranging from the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and other arts organizations to the USO, Cookies for Soldiers, museum docents, needlecraft clubs, Fisher House and the Airman & Family Readiness Center, among others. Visitors also dug into an array of pastries, breads and hot breakfast foods throughout the two-hour gathering. Activities chairman Lori Enochian said that attendance was "very good, and we got a lot of new members out of the event." Additionally, she noted that a number of visitors signed up to volunteer with organizations passing out information at the welcome coffee. "We encourage voluntarism, and many organizations attend this event in order to provide information and to seek volunteers. And they definitely got some," Enochian said. The welcome meeting kicks off the OSC's annual membership drive and also spotlights the 25 to 30 different groups within the OSC. "We will be having a monthly luncheon or dinner function in addition to all the various activities that people signed up for," Enochian said. "Each of those groups also has regular meetings so there is always something to do when you join the OSC." The club will also be focusing on its rich history this year as members pay tribute to the 70 years that have passed since Gen. Hap Arnold's wife, Eleanor, organized its predecessor, the Patterson Field Wives Club, in June 1944.
