Cookies of every flavor, shape and color were donated to bring some holiday cheer to unaccompanied Airmen at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Now in its 14th year, the Airmen's Holiday Cookie Drive is a program where volunteers donate homemade cookies that are then packaged and delivered to unaccompanied Airmen by first sergeants.

On Dec. 3 the donated cookies were delivered to two locations: the Prairies Chapel, Bldg. 6568, located in Area B, and the Community and Airman Center, Bldg. 1222, in Kittyhawk Center.

Once the donated cookies were delivered to these locations approximately 20 volunteers set to work packaging the cookies in preparation for delivery.

Volunteer Layla Vise said she hopes to spread some holiday cheer to Airmen through the Cookie Drive.

"The unaccompanied Airmen are young; they're away from their families, and they typically live in the dorms. This would be the time of year where they might be feeling a little down about being on their own so we hope these cookies will brighten their day and give them a little taste of home," said Vise.

Corina Heinlein said she was asked by friends if she would be able to volunteer and she was enthusiastically willing to donate her time.

"I want to make sure that Airmen know that they are not forgotten," said Heinlein.

Approximately 1,500 Airmen will be receiving homemade cookies this year, thanks to the drive. Each Airman will receive around a dozen cookies.

The Holiday Cookie drive is sponsored by the Wright-Patterson Enlisted Spouses' Club, Wright-Patterson Officers' Spouses' Club, the First Sergeants Council, United Service Organization of Central and Southern Ohio and the City of Fair-born.
