Holidays in the line of duty for one Wright-Patt Airman Published Nov. 25, 2014 By Laura McGowan 88 Air Base Wing Public Affairs Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio -- Family days, holidays, birthdays come and go almost seamlessly to most of us due mostly to our active duty personnel. They provide us with security and safety, many times away from their own family members. This year, one deployed senior airman will spend his first holidays and birthdays away from his wife and children. "Wright-Patt is my first assignment, and I fix computers," said SrA Tim. "While deployed, I am working as a computer support technician for the whole base and a few smaller bases in the area." While many of the issues he troubleshoots are basically the same in the deployed site as they are stateside, he said the number of issues and the priority of each issue is a little more critical in the area of responsibility. He and his wife just had a baby shortly before he deployed, and they also have a daughter who turned a year old during his deployment. He was able to "attend" her birthday party via Skype. He said, "I most certainly [will] be spending as much time as I can with them via Skype on the holidays." Airman Tim, along with other deployed military members, stays in touch with his family on a daily basis, and he is looking forward to coming home to them in the New Year. He has been in the Air Force for four years and will proudly reenlist while at his deployed location, and Airman Tim is also one of more than 9,000 Airmen who were selected for promotion to staff sergeant. When asked if there was a special message he'd like to give his wife and children, he said, "I really just want to say that I miss them and love them very much, and [I] hope they have a Merry Christmas with our extended family, and I will be home before they know it!"
