I would like to introduce you to a small organization at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base that does much behind-the-scenes work with little fanfare but performs its missions with a lot of pride. We are a unique organization with a blend of military, civilian workers and contractors.

If you have ever called for a base taxi or taken an Air Force bus to a change of command ceremony, commander's call or from your unit's rally point during a phase I exercise, you have dealt with our organization. When you read in the Skywrighter about DV visits or tours that occur here, know our organization has played a key role. Corona Top, Air Force Marathon, TATTOO and the Dayton Air Show have all been supported by our organization - the 88th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS).

When a transient aircraft lands on the base's runway, the pilot is taxied by our follow-me truck, marshalled to its parking spot, refueled by our Fuels personnel and taken to eat or billeting by Vehicle Operations personnel. This one scenario involves all three of our contracts in the LRS, but to the customer it's seamless. Traveling space A from or through Wright-Patterson AFB also involves our personnel in the passenger terminal.

The ability to drive a government vehicle on base involves interaction with our organization. When you refuel at one of the base military service stations, you are receiving service from the LRS. If you request a U-Drive it vehicle to move property or assets, our organization is supporting you.

When you hear a 445th Airlift Wing C-17 taking off or landing, know our supply personnel made sure any parts ordered were delivered from our warehouse to prevent any mission failure and that our Fuels personnel fueled the aircraft with clean, dry serviceable fuel.

If you have been appointed as equipment custodians, you deal with our contractors on a regular basis as they help you track accountability of Air Force assets worth millions of dollars.

If you have made a permanent change of station to Wright-Patterson, you may have been visited by one of our inspectors while receiving your household goods or to process your inbound household shipments with our personnel in Bldg. 1. They were there to ensure a smooth transition during your move.

All of the items described above are performed by contractors in our organization. They number around 200 personnel, and they provide logistics support to all at Wright-Patterson AFB. They are an integral part of our team.

We have a small number of government personnel who provide contract oversight for the LRS director, the contracting officer and the 88th Air Base Wing commander.

They make sure the government is getting the quality service for which it pays. They perform inspections on a scheduled and unscheduled basis to ensure compliance with Air Force standards.

Last, but definitely not least, is our Distribution Flight. For all who have gone to the AOR, the Installation Deployment Office is responsible for ensuring we have a process in place to get you there properly trained, equipped and ready to deploy.

The support agreement section works with all the units on base that provide or receive support from the 88 ABW.

Hopefully you will see where you may have encountered us at some point and the service we provided was excellent and seamless. We are proud to serve the people at Wright-Patt.
