Marines are a big part of Wright-Patterson AFB Published July 17, 2015 By 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Military Police Company Charlie, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion, is a reserve Marine contingent stationed here at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Their mission is to augment and reinforce active -duty Marine forces in time of war, national emergency or contingency operations, and provide service to the community. The battalion's honor guard members also are charged with supporting funeral services for fallen warriors throughout the Ohio Valley. With 11 active-duty Marines, one sailor and approximately 150 reservists, the 4th Law Enforcement Battalion has a wide range of duties. Most of their drill weekends are spent at the National Guard's Camp Atterbury in Indiana where the members practice with firearms. Various other training sessions that include annual classroom, law enforcement, and medical readiness is done here. Their facility is equipped with an indoor weapons simulator, a personal gym, and a dojo, where they can practice their mandatory knowledge and execution of martial arts. Many of the assigned Marines have deployed in support of operations in the Middle East and while not performing Reserve duty, they are attending college or working in the local community. Charlie Company has been actively engaged since arriving here in 2012. They have trained Airmen in martial arts and have also helped coordinate the annual Toys for Tots drive. Last year, 55,000 toyes were collected and given to various needy families. "Toys for Tots is a full-time job on top of everything we do already," said First Sergeant Adam Brown. Our building literally becomes a toy store because of all the donations we receive--the support from the community is great." Brown also mentioned the work the members have done with the 88th Security Forces Squadron and the 445th Airlift Wing. "We're one team," Brown said. "Our relationship is definitely going in the right direction," added Captain Jason Sullivan, an inspector/instructor with Charlie Company. The unit is proud of the work they do and their reputation is well established. They were chosen by U.S. Southern Command to train personnel from Canada and 16 Caribbean nations on how to respond to natural disasters and combat organized crime. The training included crime scene investigation and evidence collection.
