Fourteen years ago our nation changed - 2,753 people were killed, ranging in age from 2 to 85 years old on Sept. 11 when two aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center Towers in Manhattan, another aircraft crashed into the Pentagon, and a fourth aircraft, headed for Washington, D.C., crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In remembrance of those who were killed, approximately 2,000 members from across Wright-Patterson Air Force Base participated in the "Run for the Fallen," a 4-mile run/walk hosted by Col. John Devillier, 88th Air Base Wing commander, and sponsored by the Wright Patterson Company Grade Officers' Council.

Devillier walked through the timeline of the day's events before the start of the run, starting with the time each aircraft took off to the time they were hijacked and crashed.

Devillier thanked the people attending and added, "You serve our country in some form or fashion - thank you for what you do every day."

Capt. Kenneth Kirk, the project officer for the event, was overwhelmed by the show of support from leadership and personnel across the base.

"We had absolutely fantastic support all around and many individual came together to help put this event on and make it happen," said Kirk.
