Children, along with their parents, rock-out to tunes from a popular children's music band at the Prairies Youth Center here Friday.

Tim and the Space Cadets made their way to Dayton to perform live for Wright-Patt families right after group's front man, Tim Kubart, accepted a Grammy for "Best Children's Album" at the 2016 Grammy Awards Feb. 15.

"I love performing for children and it's always a surprise because every child is different," said Kubart, "I love that I'm reaching children with my music."

The band focuses on songs about appreciating the important things in life such as the simple creations children come up with like riding cardboard rocket ships and tap dancing on plain wooden boards.

"It's a unique experience for families to come to a concert instead of a play," said Gary Minyard, vice president of Education Engagement at Victoria Theatre Association. "It's a great way for us to bring in the highest quality family entertainment with something very unique, fun and exciting."

The event was primarily sponsored by the Victoria Theatre Association and Dayton Development Coalition along with other community partners as part of their Hometown Heroes program.

"We are very honored to be involved in programs such as Hometown Heroes so we can provide free arts experiences for military families, get out and have an evening of fun, experience something new, and enjoy family time," said Ricia Ballas, vice president of Development at Victoria Theatre Association.
