Once the base library converted to an Information Learning Center, a portion of the services were removed. The facility once had a 147,000 book collection and 20,000 square feet of space, but is now scaled down to 5,000 square feet and 3,000 books in its collection.

"At the time the ILC was stood up, we had an unofficial partnership with the local libraries and we wanted more of their presence on base" said Dr. Sara Black, Workforce Development flight chief. "The idea of the bookmobile option came up so we met with them, shared the information on their services with base personnel and developed a relationship."

The children's collection and summer reading program can be satisfied through the bookmobile services from the local counties and at the same time, the families are informed of what the libraries offer.

Books can be returned to the bookmobiles or the respective branch of the servicing county's library.

Both counties plan to continue bookmobile services for the base throughout the school year.
