Flying Space-A out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Published June 15, 2016 By W. Eugene Barnett Jr. 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Taking a hop is easier than you think. With multiple airplane terminals across the world, the Space-A program is easier to use now more than it has ever been and passengers can still travel for very little to no cost. Active duty military, retirees, spouses and dependents of all branches of active service are eligible to travel by simply signing up. Passengers can select multiple locations for travel. Upon signing up for a space, passengers confirm they will be available for travel at that specific time and day, as well as being ready to go at any time they receive the call. The terminal staff then input all requests into their system to be selected for travel on those days when seats are available. The crew releases the seats for Space-A-Travel and the passenger terminal clerk manifests those passengers selected for that flight. Although seat availability can change, terminal personnel handle distinguished visitors, duty passengers, Space A passengers of all ranks and services to ensure all seats filled on each flight. Seats are categorized into six spaces; Emergency leave, environmental morale leave, active duty on leave, dependents when sponsors are deployed, command sponsorship and National Guard, Reserves, and Retirees. The Space A program informational flight recording gives the flights of the day plus 3 days out. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has various planes for travel along with a printed schedule.
