Eugene Barnett Jr. 88 ABW WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The Retiree Activities Office provides a range of services to approximately 57,240 military retirees, survivors & dependents who live within a 70 mile radius of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. These services include advising retirees and their spouses on resources that are available to them in the local community. According to Paul Moore, director of the RAO, the staff works regularly with the Wright-Patterson Casualty Affairs Office, Defense Finance Accounting Service, TRICARE, Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wright Patterson Air Force Base Legal Office, Customer Support Center-ID Cards and Ohio State Veteran Service Centers. The Retiree Activities Office is located in Building 2, Suite 203, Area A. The nine rotating volunteers work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each year the RAO hosts a Retiree Appreciation Day during the last week of October. It's an all-day event starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. There are many speakers throughout the day dealing with current health care issues and policies, explaining Veterans Administration information, retiree benefits, legislative updates, and Defense Finance & Accounting Services. The event involves more than 40 vendors that retirees can interact with and discuss options.
