Wright-Patt AFB to conduct controlled burns on March 21 Published March 20, 2026 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is issuing a press release for a series of controlled burns scheduled for Saturday, March 21. WHO: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department and Civil Engineering personnel. WHAT: A series of three prescribed controlled burns. WHEN: Saturday, March 21, with operations beginning at 9:00 AM. 10:00 AM: First burn ignition. 12:00 PM: Second burn ignition 3:30 PM: Third burn ignition WHERE: The burns will take place at three locations on Wright-Patterson AFB: Near the Golf Course Driving Range. Huffman Prairie. Haddix Rd. and 235, outside the perimeter security fence. WHY: The controlled burns are a critical land management tool used to reduce wildfire risk by clearing flammable vegetation. The burns also help maintain the health and ecological balance of native habitats, such as the Huffman Prairie, by controlling invasive species. IMPORTANT: These plans are tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions or operational needs. Base officials will actively monitor weather conditions to ensure the burns are conducted safely and to manage the direction of smoke.
