The Department of the Air Force has modernized its mobile device management by transitioning more than 57,000 devices from Blackberry Unified Endpoint Manager to Microsoft Intune.

Announced Dec. 1, 2025, the move marks one of the largest mobile transitions in the department’s history. The shift supports DAF digital transformation goals by enhancing security, reliability and efficiency. Microsoft Intune, a cloud-based solution, centralizes device configuration, policy enforcement and application deployment.

“This transition expanded beyond adopting a new mobile management platform,” said Jonathan Demers, Enterprise Information Technology as a Service. “It’s about delivering secure, reliable connectivity at scale. The collaboration across the DAF, industry partners and the program management office has been exceptional, and we’re seeing the results in real-time as current and future devices will continue to be supported in Intune.”

The modernization provides DAF personnel with a unified and secure user experience, enabling global mission support.

“With Intune, my new device is an indispensable tool,” said James Campbell, deputy senior materiel leader, Enterprise IT and Cyber Infrastructure Division. “The seamless access to vital applications, coupled with the device's user-friendly design and quick response times, allows me to stay productive anywhere. The Wave One team’s outstanding mobile services play a crucial role in keeping our mission momentum strong.”

DAF leaders said the effort strengthens mission readiness and represents a significant step forward in modernizing IT infrastructure and enhancing cybersecurity.

The Intune platform will continue to evolve to meet emerging requirements and support secure mobile operations.
