Check it to Protect it Published Sept. 10, 2025 Civilian Health Promotion Services WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Check It To Protect It High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” for a reason- it typically has no symptoms, yet it’s one of the leading risk factors for heart disease and stroke. That’s why regular screening is so important: knowing your numbers is the first step in protecting your health. To raise awareness and promote prevention, the Civilian Health Promotion Services (CHPS) program is excited to launch its quarterly campaign, "Check It To Protect It". This campaign encourages participants to take charge of their health by understanding the causes of high blood pressure and adopting simple, sustainable lifestyle habits that support long-term wellness. Opportunities to Participate Through this campaign, the CHPS program offers many ways to learn and practice healthy behaviors. Participants can get a Blood Pressure Screening, a quick and painless test that helps detect high or low blood pressure and assess the risk of heart disease and stroke. The Maintain Don’t Gain Challenge invites participants to use the Civilian Wellness Portal to track healthy habits and stay motivated throughout the holiday season. This challenge focuses on maintaining weight during the holidays, while encouraging nutritious food choices and regular movement. During Health Education Presentations like Stress Less and Healthy Habits for a Healthy Life, participants will learn practical strategies for managing stress, improving nutrition, and building routines that support long-term wellness. For those looking to incorporate mindfulness into their daily routine, CHPS also offers LIVE Virtual Deskside Meditations- guided sessions designed to reduce stress and promote mental clarity. Managing blood pressure is not just about numbers- it’s about making informed, consistent choices that support overall well-being. The "Check It To Protect It" campaign empowers participants to take control of their heart health through regular screenings, healthy habits, and stress management, especially during the often-hectic holiday season. Join CHPS in making this holiday season heart-healthy, stress-free, and full of mindful moments! For more information, visit USAFwellness.com or contact CHPSsupport@us.af.mil.
