These events are intended to commemorate fallen defenders, celebrate those currently serving, and provide opportunities for community connection. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week. This national observance honors law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Senior Master Sgt. Brad Gaudet, the senior enlisted leader of the 88th Security Forces Squadron, stated, “For the 88th Air Base Wing, this week holds deep significance as we recognize the critical role our Security Forces Airmen and AFOSI agents play in keeping our installation safe and mission-ready.” Police week serves as both a time of remembrance and a time to celebrate the defenders who safeguard the mission and protect the community. The observance allows participants to reflect on the courage, professionalism, and daily sacrifices made by law enforcement officers at all levels. Throughout the week, base personnel and the local community will have the opportunity to connect with members of the 88th Security Forces Squadron and partnering law enforcement agencies, gaining insight into their rigorous training and a deeper appreciation for the critical role they play in protecting our community. “Events like Defender challenges, Military Working Dog demonstrations and community outreach activities allow us to showcase their skills and strengthen the bond between Wright-Patt and the Dayton area,” Gaudet said. “These interactions foster trust and mutual respect, reinforcing that our base is not just a military installation but a proud partner in the community.” A full slate of events is planned throughout the week to honor, engage, and educate. Here is a look at what the community can expect during Police Week 2025. For the 88th Air Base Wing, this is a moment to recommit supporting our Service members and their families, ensuring they have the resources and recognition they deserve.” Events are open to Base personnel.
