The Air Force turns 60 this year and Dave Egner, director of Freedom's Call Air Force Materiel Command Tattoo, said he wants it to be a big bang. The June 29 show will open with both flyovers and fireworks.

Mr. Egner said the theme for this year's Tattoo is "Heritage to Horizons."
Both past and current airframes, musical presentations and performances by Tops In Blue will all play a part in highlighting significant events in the Air Force's history, he said.

"I want to tell the Air Force story," Mr. Egner said.

Not everything about this year's show will be new.

"The Air Force Band of Flight will return this year to play at Tattoo," Mr. Egner said.

Dave Thomas, special events coordinator for the National Museum of the United States Air Force, said any unawarded medals from World War II to the current conflict will be presented, as well as a group enlistment. Both of those events were part of Tattoo's lineup last year.

While many of the logistics details are still in the works, Mr. Egner said the handicapped parking area will be larger, and there will be more parking for those without base access.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Pre-show activities will include live music and children's inflatable games.

Food will be available for purchase from vendors. Large coolers with ice and glass bottles will not be allowed in.  Visit http:// www.wpafb .af.mil/ tattoo/i ndex. asp for more information.
