Air Force Marathon officials continue to add to the growing list of new elements for this year's Air Force 60th Anniversary event that will take place Sept. 15 here.

In response to runner requests, officials have added new five-year age category awards for the half-marathon race.

"There can be a big difference between a 40 and a 49 year-old running a race," said Molly Louden, Air Force marathon director. "We decided this year to space the awards five years apart, rather than 10. We can recognize more runners this way, and it will add to the competitive elements of this year's half-marathon event."

All participants completing the race will receive a commemorative 60th anniversary finisher's medal. Winners in each age category will also receive uniquely designed awards that recognize their achievements.

Other new race elements include having continuous fly-overs, opening of the course to downtown Fairborn and hosting of the 5K race Sept. 14 at Wright State University.
