WPJFC hosts melting pot workshop and metoring evening Published Sept. 17, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Renee Holland Air Fprce Band of Flight Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Ever wondered what your officer, enlisted and civilian colleagues do? The Wright-Patt Junior Force Council (WPJFC) tried to shed some light on this matter by bringing together the Air Force's total force for a day of learning, mentoring, and networking Aug. 24. The day's events included the Air Force Melting Pot Workshop at the Air Force Institute of Technology CE Auditorium followed by a Mentoring Evening at the Flywright. To start the day, the WPJFC brought in a panel for the workshop comprised of Lt. Col. Terri Quick, Chief Master Sgt. James Ross, and Brent Gibson. As the panelists ran in to the auditorium, a strobe light flashed and an announcer proclaimed, "Let's get ready to rumble!" The three panelists then discussed career paths and available resources for the officer, enlisted and civilian employee in the Air Force. In addition, they were presented with some very frank questions including queries about colleagues in other career paths and about improvements to their own jobs. Some attendees expressed frustration regarding supervisory support for collateral activities and a lack of proper guidance in their own career paths. Following the highly successful Melting Pot Workshop, the WPJFC hosted a Mentoring Evening where the junior force was able to mingle with the senior leadership of WPAFB. Here, junior officers, enlisted and civilians were able to chat in a relaxed atmosphere with such senior leaders as Lt. Gen. Jack Hudson, Col. Robert Stambaugh, Chief Master Sgt. Diane Foote and Randy Parker, among others. If you missed the Melting Pot Workshop and/or Mentoring Evening, check out the upcoming WPJFC events at https://afkm.wpafb.af.mil. The next mentoring opportunity is a Breakfast Mentoring Event Oct. 2 at First Watch in Beavercreek. To register, call 656-5331.
