Shauna Stapleton, a student researcher with the Air Force Research Laboratory's Human Effectiveness Directorate, was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Soccer first team.

Ms. Stapleton, a senior at Purdue University majoring in entomology, works as a laboratory technician in the AFRL/RH Biosciences and Protection Division, Applied Biotechnology Branch (RHPB) during holiday and summer breaks. She is the first Purdue student-athlete to receive Academic All-America honors in the program's 10-year history.

"She is a valuable member of our staff, is extremely well liked by her colleagues, and strives to do all she can for AFRL and the Air Force," said Lt. Colonel Timothy Woodruff, who is Ms. Stapleton's supervisor and Director of Operations, Biosciences and Protection. "We're extremely proud of her work here and her amazing accomplishments at Purdue University."

Only 11 student-athletes in the nation are selected for first-team honors, and Ms. Stapleton was one of only three midfielders chosen in balloting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

According to the Purdue University web site, Stapleton was the first Boilermaker to produce double-digit goal and assist totals in a single season. The Springfield, Ohio, native finished the 2007 season with 10 goals and 11 assists.

Academically, Ms. Stapleton carries a cumulative grade point average near 4.0 and has been named to the Dean's List six times. She also was named Academic All Big Ten team and Entomology Student of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
