Date set for Retiree Appreciation Day Published April 10, 2008 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The Retiree Activities Office here has announced the next Retiree Appreciation Day will take place Oct. 29 at the Hope Hotel. Plans are already underway to make the event even larger and more informative than last year's event, which attracted some 350 retirees, said retired Air Force Col. Paul Moore, Wright-Patt's Retiree Activities Office director. The event is open to military retirees, surviving spouses and those preparing for retirement who want to learn the very latest on retiree benefits. Retired Army Maj. Gen. William Matz, president of the National Association for the Uniformed Services, is slated to return as a guest speaker for this year's event . Free medical screening, refreshments, information booths and door prizes are planned. Moore said more than 28,000 military retirees and surviving spouses from all military services live within about 70 miles of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Retiree Activities Office provides current information and assistance to military retirees, their dependents and survivors who reside in the local area of responsibility and coordinates retiree volunteer assistance to many base organizations.
