Representatives of UES Inc., presented a royalty check to Dr. David Walker, director of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (AFRL/RX), April 1, which was based on the sale price of a technology developed on a government funded research contract here.

The technology is the Robo-Met.3DTM system, a fully automated robotic serial sectioning device used in analyzing the internal structure of materials, thereby allowing more accurate life predictions about components made from these materials. The system has reduced the amount of time required for this analysis from months, to days. UES employees developed the system, based on the prototype unit co-invented by Jonathan Spowart and Herbert Mullens. Dr. Spowart is now a civilian employee of RX.

The U.S. Government filed four patents relating to this new system, and UES has executed an exclusive, worldwide patent license agreement with AFRL to commercialize this cutting edge technology. Based on the sale of a Robo-Met.3DTM system to Carnegie Mellon University in February, UES presented a royalty check for $12,440 to AFRL/RX.
