BRAC construction progress brings new road detours to Area B Published May 7, 2008 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- As construction continues to progress on the infrastructure military construction project, base civil engineers must continue with road closures and modify several detour routes in Area B here. Utilities are being upgraded in Area B to support new 711th Human Performance Wing facilities to be constructed in support of mission consolidation directed by the Base Realignment and Closure process. The $13.8 million infrastructure project involves steam, roadway, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water line, and electrical line relocation and improvements. Construction activities have closed several sections of road along the top of the hill in Area B. Hobson Road from Eighth Street to Tenth Street has been closed for road widening for future 711th HPW facilities and portions of Seventh and Skyline Drive have been closed due to steam pipe replacement. These phases of work will be complete by May 19. Beginning May 20, the new closures will be Third Street from Skyline Drive to Fifth Street, Fifth Street at Skyline Drive, Skyline Drive at Eighth Street, and Eighth Street from Skyline Drive to Hobson Way. See linked map for affected areas and detour routes. There will be numerous construction activities ongoing in this area, so please use caution when in the vicinity of this construction, said Barbara O'Brien, engineering division deputy with the 88th Civil Engineer Directorate. "There is a great deal of work to be accomplished, but public safety and minimizing disruptions are top priorities for CE in the execution of these projects," O'Brien said. "We recognize these closures create an inconvenience to the base; however, please keep in mind these detours are temporary in nature. We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we prepare the Area B infrastructure for the significant BRAC development yet to come."
