Base officials have released the latest available figures which reveal Wright-Patterson's total economic impact to the Dayton region exceeds $4.4 billion.

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio Economic Impact Analysis shows a combined total of 24,817 military, civilian and contractor employees.

The entire report, which incorporates data as of Sept. 30, 2007, is posted on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Public Web page in the Library section at http://www.wpafb.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-070430-005.pdf.

The local community definition for the 2007 analysis includes Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties, said Capt. David Mazur, deputy budget officer with the 88th Comptroller Squadron here.

"I think people in the neighboring communities already recognize Wright-Patt has a huge local economic impact," said Col. Colleen Ryan, 88th Air Base Wing commander. "Everyone in the greater Dayton region should take pride in the capabilities we bring to the Air Force and to the nation."

"As impressive as these numbers are, it is nearly impossible to completely capture our total impact on every neighboring county, city and township near the base and we continue to refine the way to best calculate and encapsulate the data for future reports," Col. Ryan said.

According to a base fact sheet, Wright-Patterson is the most diverse and organizationally complex U.S. Air Force installation. It is where America's Air Force aircraft of tomorrow are conceived, developed, and acquired. Missions for base units vary from acquisition and logistics management, to research and development, advanced education, heavy airlift flight operations, intelligence, as well as a vast array of other activities.
