BRAC construction requires temporary closure of Gate 19B

Construction of new electric, communication, water, and sewer lines across Fifth Street in Area B will necessitate the closure of Gate 19B at National Road here from July 7 - 20.

After closely considering the many challenges involved with maintaining traffic while performing this work, base officials determined closure of Gate 19B was required to maintain public safety. Gate 19B will reopen and return to normal operations July 21.

The new infrastructure will support the future 711th Human Performance Wing complex.

To assist morning traffic flow during the 19B closure, security forces will open Gate 16B at the Wright Memorial from 6 to 9 a.m. only. Traffic will only be permitted to enter using a right-hand turn, which is the direction coming from State Route 444 on Kauffman Ave. To minimize delays and for safety reasons, traffic which would require a left-hand turn (from National Road onto Kaufman) will not be permitted to enter Gate 16B. As always, Gates 22B and 1B may be used to enter Area B.

"We are committed to minimizing disruption as much as possible during construction," said Barbara O'Brien, deputy engineering division chief with the 88th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate. "However, safety is always our primary concern."

Base officials will post additional construction and traffic updates on the Web and in the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Skywrighter newspaper.
